Terry Hershey Award & Honorees

In honor of this well-known “force of nature for nature,” Audubon is honored to name its Texas Women in Conservation Award for Terry Hershey. Mrs. Hershey devoted and invested substantial passion, time, energy, and resources in significant conservation projects in Houston and throughout Texas. Mrs. Hershey was a former member of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission and a founding board member of Buffalo Bayou Preservation Association, Houston Audubon Society, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Research Center, The Park People, and Urban Harvest. She was also a past board member for Audubon Texas, the National Audubon Society, National Recreation and Park Association, and The Trust for Public Land. Terry Hershey was a force for nature for her entire life. Sadly, she passed away on her 94th birthday on January 19, 2017.

Audubon Texas will host the sixth annual Texas Women in Conservation Luncheon on Wednesday, October 28 in Dallas, during which the 2020 Terry Hershey Award will be presented to Anne Brown, Janette Monear, Julie Shackelford, and Gail Thomas.
