The right kind of native plants can attract birds to your yard!

Join us and Nick Kowalske from Texas Conservation Alliance to talk about native plants that will attract birds to your backyard!

Nick Kowalske is a recent graduate from Harvard University with a degree in Integrative Biology who is also a super passionate backyard birder! His scientific and personal interest in birds (and nature more broadly) has driven him to undertake a deep dive into native landscaping in order to increase bird diversity in his yard. His garden currently contains over 200 species of native plants, and he has documented 106 species of birds in his small suburban yard as of December 2025.

He currently works for Texas Conservation Alliance as a Community Conservation and Communication Coordinator, a role which has him wearing diverse hats—running the organization's statewide social media, working in their Native Plant Propagation Center at the Dallas Zoo, planning community conservation events, leading Lights Out bird surveys, and more.

Attendees will receive a ticket for one adult beverage (21 and up), light snacks and 20% off select items in the gift shop. Tickets are $10 minimum donation. We greatly appreciate any gift above this amount to support our mission of protecting birds and the places they need, today and tomorrow.
