JULY 20, 2021 – The National Audubon Society welcomes Lisa Gonzalez as its newest Vice President and Executive Director, Texas. Most recently, Lisa served as President and CEO of the Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC), where she led a team of scientists, policy experts, engineers, and support staff that work to incorporate independent research into policy solutions relating to energy, air, water and climate issues.
“I am excited to bring my passion for understanding the intersection between the human and ecological systems and focus on the impacts associated with changing environmental conditions and creating opportunities and partnerships to advance goals and achieve outcomes that sustain wildlife populations and the habitats that they rely on,” said Gonzalez.
As Vice President and Executive Director of Audubon Texas, Gonzalez will develop and execute statewide conservation policy, initiatives, and public programming as well as expand Audubon Texas’ leadership in Audubon’s Gulf Coast.
“We are thrilled to have Lisa lead our mission forward in championing a new brand of conservation focused on collaboration, community and impact across the State of Texas,” said Suzanne Dixon, Audubon’s Mississippi and Central Flyway Vice President.
“Lisa has a proven capability for aligning diverse partners around a shared vision. The pressing conservation challenges in Texas require bold leadership; Lisa will provide just that using her talent, experience and innovative spirit."
In addition to her nonprofit work, she serves the greater Houston community as an appointed member of the Harris County Community Flood Resilience Task Force and the Harris County MAAPnext Community Advisory Group. She is a current member of the Board of Directors of the Bayou Preservation Association and past Chair of the Gulf and South Atlantic Regional Panel on Aquatic Nuisance Species.
Gonzalez holds a Master of Science in Environmental Management from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and a Bachelor of Science in Marine Fisheries from Texas A&M University at Galveston. She is a PhD Candidate in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences at Texas A&M University at College Station.
